‘Canestrino Della Garfagnana’ is an old heirloom tomato that has been grown for over 100 years in the Province of Lucca in the Tuscany region in Italy. The plant produces plenty of large, pear/sack-shaped, red, slightly ribbed on the shoulders tomatoes. Fruit weight varies from 4-11oz./100-300gr. Meaty and firm flesh, small, sometimes empty seed cavities, ideal for drying or stuffing. Rich and bold flavors with good sweetness. Very productive, indeterminate, regular leaf plants, vigorous, and strong with good disease resistance. Midseason, about 80 days to maturity. Mid season. Indeterminate, regular leaf plant. Fruit weight 100-300 gr. Flesh is firm and gel-free, ideal for drying. Rich flavor with sweetness. Very productive variety. Rare and old heirloom from the province of Lucca, Tuscany region, Italy. Small red fruit of 120 to 180 gr and 7 cm in diameter and 7 cm in height, pear-shaped and with a well-marked ribbing. Almost identical to Canestrino di Lucca but better in several ways.
Orange red heart-sack-shaped tomatoes with pronounced ribs. Average fruit weight of 100 to even +300 grams.
Firm flesh with little gel and seeds. Ideal for sauces, coulis and for drying.
Very nice old-fashioned sweet tomato flavor.
