An old heirloom tomato that has been grown for over 100 years in the Province of Lucca in the Tuscany region in Italy. The plant produces plenty of large, pear/sack-shaped, red, slightly ribbed on the shoulder's tomatoes. Meaty and firm flesh, small, sometimes empty seed cavities, ideal for drying or stuffing. Rich and bold flavors with good sweetness. Very productive, indeterminate, regular leaf plants, vigorous, and strong with good disease resistance. Midseason, about 80 days to maturity. Almost identical to Canestrino di Lucca but better in several ways.
Orange red heart-sack-shaped tomatoes with pronounced ribs. Average fruit weight of 100 to even +300 grams.
Firm flesh with little gel and seeds. Ideal for sauces, coulis and for drying.
Very nice old-fashioned sweet tomato flavor.
