The Red Burgundy Okra is a deep red variety that produces a tender and delicious pod. This productive burgundy red okra adds a nice crunch, delicious flavor and beautiful color to any soup or stew, especially gumbo!
Okra is a warm-weather plant, soaking up full sunshine and thriving in any ordinary, well-drained garden soil. Start seeds indoors (4 to 6 weeks before the soil warms) everywhere but the hottest climates, soaking the seeds for 24 hours before planting them. Transplant when night temperatures are consistently above 50 degrees F, spacing the plants 10 to 12 inches apart. Fertilize the soil before planting and again when the plants begin to flower. If you want to pick the fruit for eating, they are ready to harvest when just 3 inches long, or maybe left to mature to their full size.
Heirloom Non-GMO Seedlings will be 3 inches or taller.
*** We grow our plants right out in the New Mexico weather and in full sun. We recommend allowing a day or two for your new babies get acclimated to your climate. At that point, your plant should recover from any stress due to shipping as well, and is ready to plant in the ground or a container if the weather permits. ***
