‘Michael Pollan’ is a very unique plum/pear shaped tomato variety developed by Brad Gates at ‘Wild Boar Farms’ from an odd-shaped mutant of Green Zebra. It was named after writer, journalist and teacher, Michael Pollan – a man who has contributed greatly to our understanding and appreciation of plants, and by virtue of his contribution has enhanced the quality of all of our lives.

Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce 3-4″ long, pear-shaped fruit with slight pointy end that grow in loose clusters. Fruit color is green with vertical yellow stripes. The odd branching of this variety makes it more difficult to tie/stake. Extremely high yields with one plant often producing as much as 5 gallons of fruit! Indeterminate, regular leaf plant. Midseason, 75 days to maturity.

It has a slightly pronounced neck at the stem-end and a round bottom that comes to a tiny point. The smooth thin yellow skin is covered with olive and minty green specks, similar to a green zebra tomato, and the interior is a bright lime color with solid meaty walls.

Vibrant vines are about six feet and show good disease resistance. When ripened fruits turn yellowish green, so watch out for them.

Taste is very different from the Green Zebra. Much less tartness, milder with good sweetness. I ran out later in the season, customers kept asking about them.

Multiflora variety, producing a myriad of flowers, but only a part of which seems to produce fruits (each cluster bearing between 10 and 20 tomatoes).
Rather pulpy green flesh with good tangy-tannic flavor, in the style of "Green Zebra", the small fruits being the best.
Plant with moderate development, regular foliage, indeterminate growth.
Generous production. Good conservation.
