These chicks will be 1-5 weeks old and will still need access to some sort of heat source to warm up until they are fully feathered.
No no no. These chickens haven't been playing with light sockets. These unique little poof balls are super cuddly even though they look like porcupines.
We describe Bantam Cochins as cowboy chickens. These are some saucy cowboys! They have heavily feathered feet making them look like they are wearing a pair of chaps when they run! We absolutely love them! They are consistent layers when they aren't broody but would much prefer to be raising babies. We had a hen that was a permanent resident in our grow out pen with 200+ juveniles to break up fights and teach them the ropes of living outside. They have great personalities and are particularly friendly, even the roosters! Like Silkies, Frizzles are always the talk of the town and quickly become favorites of children and all others who are young at heart.
Why do they look so weird?
-Well they carry a fairly new gene dubbed- Frizzle. This gene causes the feathers to grow vertically instead of laying flat. Breeding a smooth feathered bird to a Frizzle feathered bird will result in 50% frizzle and 50% smooth offspring.
